Environmental activities

The Constitution of Russian Federation provides the human right that everybody has the right “to a favourable environment and reliable information about its condition” (Article 42 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation). One of ZAAB Energy’s major principles is to minimise the influence of its oil and gas exploration and production activities on the environment.

By this we mean specifically:

• Oil and gas shall be produced efficiently
• Production processes shall be optimised in a way that they provide sufficient ecological safety
• Any negative impact of production on the environment shall be minimised, in particular the waste generated by oil and gas production shall be reduced
• The company’s employees shall be aware of ecological issues

The management of ZAAB Invest has approved a specific environmental programme with the title “Activity programme on the conservation of subsurface resources and the environment”. According to this programme ZAAB Invest intends to invest a significant amount of money for a number of environmental measures. I.a. it is planned to establish several environmentally protected areas, to take additional measures for ensuring the reliability of installed equipment as well as to implement measures of air pollution control, water and land conservation. Special attention will be paid to protecting the environment during the construction and operation of the infrastructure facilities.

The management team has a proven track record in having regard to environmental issues. Goloil, a producing oil and gas company which the team was managing from 2000 until 2003, was the only company in the Khanty-Mansyisk Autonomous Region (apart from Surgutneftegas) which utilised more than 90% of its associated gas. This was achieved by using the gas for firing a gas power station.
