Mariynskiy license area, Stavropol

The Maryinskiy license area is located in the southern part of the Stavropol Territory, in the Kirov district, 15 kilometres from the Novopavlovsk railway station. Novopavlovsk is an administrative centre of the Kirov district. The license area size is 47.8 square kilometres. The license is valid from October 2006.

The long-distance oil pipeline Baku-Novorossisk is situated 50 kilometres from the block and the main gas pipeline Nevinnomyssk-Maikop is 180 kilometres from the license area.

Most of the 2-D seismic works were carried out between 1960 and 1980 and 7 deep wells were drilled with depths of up to 3,800 meters. As a result the Maryinskoye uplift was discovered. At well No. 5 an oil inflow of 500 tons (approximately 3,600 barrels) per day was achieved for a period of about 3 days. 50 kilometres of new two-dimensional seismics have been acquired in early 2008 in the Marinskiy license block. ZAAB Invest is currently preparing to drill a new well at the end of 2008. The risk at this block is believed to be only of a technical nature.

The recoverable oil resources under C3 category in the Maryinskiy block are currently estimated at 710,000 tons (5 million barrels). This is the amount marked in the State balance of mineral reserves of the Russian Federation as of 1 January 2005 which was also the basis for the tender procedure in which the license was offered.
